Lee County is home to over 20 wrecks and artificial reefs in the Gulf of Mexico. Dive sites provide an array of marine life including Goliath Grouper, Snook, Tarpon, Snapper, Rays, and even the occasional Whale Shark sighting. Book a charter to one or more of our recommended sites, or call Captain Steve to put together a custom itinerary. Divers will enjoy a walk-out transom with dive platform and telescoping ladder.

USS Mohawk CGC Veterans Memorial Reef

The USCGC Mohawk WPG-78 is a 165-foot Coast Guard Cutter built in 1934 and commissioned in 1935. The Mohawk was assigned icebreaking detail along the Hudson and Delaware Rivers before being utilized in the North Atlantic during World War II. In 2012, after many years in limbo, the Mohawk was sunk 28 miles off the coast of Captiva Island and dedicated as the first veterans memorial military ship reef in the United States.

The Mohawk sits in 90 feet of water and has many options for penetration into the wreck. Because of this, dive charters to the Mohawk require proof of Advanced SCUBA certification.

The Pegasus Tug

Built in 1927, the Pegasus Tug is a steel-hulled tug that was used to guide ships in and out of New York Harbor in her prime. She was later used as a casino boat in Miami, and was finally scuttled as an artificial reef in 1999. The Pegasus rests in 95 feet of water, and lies in close proximity to the Mohawk. The Pegasus is home to a wonderful diversity of fish and marine life. 

Boxcar Reef

In the late 1980's, several train boxcars were used to create an artificial reef. The boxcars sit in 72 feet of water 20 miles off the coast of Boca Grande.

Edison Reef

In 1993, rubble from the old Edison Bridge was used to create an artificial reef 12 miles off the coast of Sanibel Island. The large amount of rubble has created a vast expanse of marine habitat that provides the opportunity for sighting of everything from Snook to Sailfish. Located in 45 feet of water, it is an ideal dive for all levels of experience.
